Andiamo per un aperitivo!!
“translation: Lets me go for a Cocktail”
A cocktail, in Italy is called an “apertivo”…one afternoon I said to my 75 year old mom “andiamo per un apertivo” let’s go for a drink…
Waiter: Ciao..Come va?
“translation: Hi…how are you?”
Me: Ciao vogliamo un apertivo di Aperol & Prosecco, Grazie
“translation: “Ciao…2 Aperol Spritz, Thank You”
He brings over all these platters of food & I turn to him with a “certain” tone in my voice and tell him “I didn’t order this & I not to charge me for it blah blah….”
Waiter: Signora, didn’t you order an aperitivo?
Me: Yes (as I’m rolling my eyes!)
Waiter: “That’s what you have then!..Signora, in Italia an aperitivo is served with food…as he whispers under his breath..Mamma mia questi Canadese!!!”
Moral of the story, an “aperitivo” is a drink with some mini pizzas, bruschetta, olives!!!! If it’s included with the “aperitivo” then who am I to argue…LOL..thank goodness Dimitri will be with us all to train us silly after all those apertivos!
A presto!!!
