My tech guru, was chatting with me about some changes that I needed done on the website, and of course we sidetracked onto smoothies. She began to tell me about this crazy smoothie that has health benefits to die for, that she drinks every single day.
I asked her to give me the recipe – and she did…
It requires you to be organized, but this has a super punch of nutritients… she did warn me that you need to work yourself up to the 4 tsp of spirulina… LOL . it has the taste of well.. POND. start off with 1 tsp – and work up to 4 tsp.
This requires a couple of Items to be made on the side to be added.
Oat Straw Infusion
Now she did warn me that this tastes like “Barn” Lol – but if you add it to a smoothie it blends with everything else.
Oat Straw Infusion is high in calcium 1 cup offers 300 mg. It also offers, minerals, protein, and a spectrum of B vitamins (Not B12)
It is reported to promote healthy bone, skin, hair and nail health, as it also has high levels of silica. The high level of B Vitamins can help to alleviate stress and anxiety. All Perfect things for Women as we get older!
Oat Straw can be purchased in bulk, at local health food stores. You take 1/2 cup of Oatstraw, and place it in a 1.5 litre Mason Jar. Pour boiling water over it and then seal it. Leave it in your fridge, overnight. Strain using a sieve and you can store the infusion in the fridge until you need to make more. 1 cup per smoothie is all you need. You have about 4 days worth.
Helpful Tip: When you are pulling out the last of it for your smoothie – put the kettle on to boil, while you are gathering the rest of your ingredients for the smoothie, and get your oatstraw ready on the counter. When you pour the last of it into the blender, you will have a boiled kettle that you can use immediately into the NOW empty mason jar. Add half a cup of the oat straw, pour the water over it – seal it – and let it sit on the counter. (It can be very hot to put right into the fridge!)
